Robert J. is an award-winning singer/songwriter/recording artist who has been a mainstay in the Wisconsin music scene for decades. After living in Connecticut for the past few years, Robert will be relocating back to Madison, WI in the spring of 2024 and is booking solo gigs and shows with his band, The Moon Gypsies beginning Memorial Day weekend.
Robert's music blends the styles which flow along the Mississippi River, from blues to country, folk to rootsy rock and roll. HIs song, "A Million Miles Away" won the best blues song in the Billboard Song Contest and he was awarded a Music Notes Lifetime Achievement award for his songwriting. Over the years, Robert has shared the stage with many well-known artists including The Beach Boys, Taj Mahal, The Subdudes, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Delbert McClinton, LeAnn Rimes, John Eddie, Paul Thorn and many more. His solo show consists of well-crafted original songs and many of the classic tunes we all know. He mixes acoustic guitar (with a looper), harmonica, kickboard and soulful vocals to create an authentic sound all his own.
His Madison band, THE ROWDY PRAIRIE DOGS, released their bluesy, country rocking CD, BARLAND and it has garnered 4 MAMA Awards. The only constant thing in life is Change!

After 2 and a half years in Connecticut, I'll be moving back to Wisconsin this spring. It's been a rewarding experience to have lived in New England and I hope to come back again in the future. But, due to changes in my family life, it's best that I return to Madison where I have spent a large portion of my life. Looking forward, I started picking up gigs and my first one will be on Memorial Day at Christy's Landing with The Moon Gypsies. I've got a handful of gigs in Connecticut with my last being at The Winchester Cafe on March 22nd. And then, once again, I'll load up the UHaul and move on. As always, wherever I am, I hope to see you, Hanging Out In Barland!
